Journal Entry 5

I am still reading True Grit this week.  In the book, a girl’s father dies and she goes on a man hunt with two rangers to find the killer. So far, there has not been much exictement, but i think it will pick up soon.  It is not my favorite book because it seems to never end and there is nothing adventurous or face-paced. If I had to pick a least favorite character from a book I read this year it would be a man named LaBoeuf. He is a Texan ranger from True Grit. I don’t like him because he is mean to the young girl and thinks of himself as better than everyone else.  These are the kinds of people who I don’t like in real life, so reading about them annoys me. My favorite character from this year would have to be Tally from the Uglies series. I know I have written about this book in just about every post, but it was just that good. Tally is courageous, strong- minded, and determined. She has very good qualities about her and was always helping people. Her life is very exciting and she is able to stand up for what she believes in.  If you read this book, it’s hard not to like her.
I would not recommend True Grit.  Like I said before, it is boring. The only reason I am reading it is because I need traditional literature books, but I would strongly recommend not reading it for fun. I just hope the second half of the book is better that the first. I have been stuck at thirty two books for a long time, so ,please, if you know of any short traditional literature, fantasy, mystery, or  biography let me know!

  1. I would recommend you read the Nancy Drew books. They are so wonderful. Also, you should read "Adolf Hitler" for a biography. It's short and he wears a tuxedo in it.

  2. Dear Ky,
Thanks for telling me not to read True Grit it sound like it is terrible. I would like to help you with some short book choices. For traditional literature I read The Giver, A Wrinkle in Time, some other that you can ask me in school. For the mystery I read Death by Bikini, Latte, and Denim. I have those books all in one book. You can barrow it if you need it. Finally the last short book advice I can give you is to read American Born Chinese it is fantasy. It look like it is big, but it is has comics throughtout the entire book. I hope that I helped you in any way!!! :)

  3. Nice blog post! I recommend Once Upon a Marigold. Even though it's not that short, it's really easy and quick to read.

  4. Is the book "Nineteen-Eighty Four" traditional? If it is, I recommend it, its only 325 pages.

PS. It is written by George Orwell.

    PSS. It might be fantasy.
