Journal Entry 5

I am still reading True Grit this week.  In the book, a girl’s father dies and she goes on a man hunt with two rangers to find the killer. So far, there has not been much exictement, but i think it will pick up soon.  It is not my favorite book because it seems to never end and there is nothing adventurous or face-paced. If I had to pick a least favorite character from a book I read this year it would be a man named LaBoeuf. He is a Texan ranger from True Grit. I don’t like him because he is mean to the young girl and thinks of himself as better than everyone else.  These are the kinds of people who I don’t like in real life, so reading about them annoys me. My favorite character from this year would have to be Tally from the Uglies series. I know I have written about this book in just about every post, but it was just that good. Tally is courageous, strong- minded, and determined. She has very good qualities about her and was always helping people. Her life is very exciting and she is able to stand up for what she believes in.  If you read this book, it’s hard not to like her.
I would not recommend True Grit.  Like I said before, it is boring. The only reason I am reading it is because I need traditional literature books, but I would strongly recommend not reading it for fun. I just hope the second half of the book is better that the first. I have been stuck at thirty two books for a long time, so ,please, if you know of any short traditional literature, fantasy, mystery, or  biography let me know!

Journal Entry 4

This week i am reading a book called True Grit. It is set in the early 1900's in an old western town. This book would be hard to turn into a movie, so, instead, i picked a book i read earlier, Uglies. This book was one of my favorites and it would be a great sci-fi movie. It is filled with tons of actions, but has a love story built in. The main characters are Tally, Zane, Peris, Shay, and David. I think that as the main character, Tally should be played by an unkown acctress. If a well-known acctress was cast to play Tally the story line would not be the same. Zane, Tally's pretty boy friend, should be played by Jonathen Bennet. He was in the movie Mean Girls and has the right look for Zane. Peris was Tally's best friend before he got the operation to turn pretty. He should be played by Liam Hemsworth. Hemsworth was recently in the movie The Last Song. He would be great for the part beccuase Peris is all about looks in the book. Shay is a rebellious ugly who runs away from the city to live in the wild and avoid the operation. In my opinion, Michelle Trachtenburg would be the perect person to play Shay. She has the natural yet mysitical look about her. David is Tally's ugly boyfriend. He lived in the Smoke, where Tally visited to spy. David should be played by Taylor Laughtner. I can't really say why, but something about Laughtner tells me he would be a good person to play David.
Now i have thirty one books read and i need a suggestion on a short mystery. I really need to read some books fast becuase i am a liitle behind. PLEASE, give me suggestions on books that take a very short time to read.

Journal Entry 3

This week i read  A Taste of Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul. It is the same thing as the regular Chicken Soup book, except a lot shorter.  It is composed of nine true stories about the struggles and and hardships of teenagers. It is a book that is very easy to relate with and it's interesting to read about how the person in the story resolved the problem. This book could actually be helpful when you're in a fight or a struggle. If i had to pick four songs that protrayed the book, i would pick the following:
1." Stand by You"- Rascal Flatts. I would pick this song because is portrays a good message about someone always being there for you. The Chicken Soup books also have similar messages.
2. "Teenage Dream"...of course!- Katy Perri. This song is basically the definition of being a teenager, so for a book about dealing with the hardships of being a teenager, it's perfect.
3. "Firework"- Katy Perri. This song also has a meaningful message to always be yourself.  Some of the stories, like, "Center Stage", are about teens not being true to themsleves.
4."Bad Day"- Daniel Powter. This song is about accepting the fact that you had a bad day and shaking your mistakes off. Most of the stories are about "bad days", so this song would have been perfect to represent the book.
A Taste of Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul is either a biography or informational book. I would recommend this book becuase it's super short and easy to read. I think i have about 30 books read. I still need those traditional literature books though.

Journal Entry 2

This week I am reading Miles To Go by Miley Cyrus. Becuase it's an autobiography, it doesn't really have a plot. There were some interesting things that I learned about her though. For example, Miley Cyrus and her co-star, Emily Osment, had to play bestfriends on the show Hannah Montana, but didn't get along in real life. Obviously, if i had to pick a character to meet, i would pick Miley Cyrus because the whole book is about her. Another interesting thing i learned from the book is Miley sometimes has to be fake. She said, "Not fake becuase I'm lying or pretending to be someone I'm not, but fake becuase people to be someone I'm not, but fake becuase people ask me questions i can't answer." I thought it was interesting to learn that she can't keep it together all the time. If i got to ask her four questions, i would ask...
1. When and what was your first role on tv?
2. Do you like to preform more as Hannah or Miley?
-Miley, becuase i feels more real.
3. If you could pick between between being on Hannah Montana where you had to be two characters or a show where you only have to be one.
-Hannah Montana because i could sing, dance and act.
4. What is your dream character to play?
-A grandma because it is so different than who I acually am.
I would recomend this book to girls. It's interesting to read about someone who you thought you already knew.

Journal Entry 1

This week i read Witness.  It is a historical fiction book that is about a town where the Ku Klux Klan is doing buisness.  The main characters, Esther Hirsh and Leanorra Sutter, are two young children who become aware of racism and anti- judaism at an early age. Esther belongs to a Jewish family and Leanorra is African American. These two characters could very well have been children living at a time during segregation and they experience how severe and violent people can be because of ones religion or race.  In the book the Ku Klux Klan does some pretty violent and heartless stuff.
This novel is not in the form of most books.  It consists of poems or diary entries from different people around the town. After reading them, all the entries come together and make sense. This book was actually very good and i recommend it to anyone. Its very short because most of the entries are less than half a page but the author does a great job of holding your attention and adding some suspense until the end.
I can't say i have a favorite book that i have read this year.  If i had to pick one, it would come from either the Hunger Games series or the Uglies series. They were both great! I recommend either one of these series to anyone who likes science fiction. I'm on my thirtieth book right now and i need some suggestions on good and short biographies and fantasies.
